We believe the social contribution and total economic value of our companies will be greater in the long run and the cohesion of our family strengthened when each organization in the Enterprise is strong in and of itself and the people in it are committed to their company, their coworkers and their customers.
We believe people serve each other and their customers best with their own autonomous management. And, when appropriate, under their own Board of chiefly Independent Directors. We actively encourage continued independence and the growth of each of our companies through entrepreneurial initiative. We value all of our stakeholders, customers, coworkers, owners, suppliers, service providers, and people in the communities in which we operate, and we respect them for the part they play in making each of our companies organizationally strong, financially healthy, happy and fun places in which to work. We value trust, integrity, loyalty, and ability. We believe people, especially our coworkers, are intrinsically good and well-intentioned and will do the right thing. We act accordingly in our relationships with each of them and with one another. We are convinced management and coworkers in individual companies can, and do, benefit personally and organizationally from regular, systematic sharing of experience on a voluntary basis in an environment of trust; learning from, and being stimulated by their counterparts in other units within the Enterprise regardless of market served, product, or service. We believe - with Peter Drucker - that if we take good care of our coworkers and our customers, earnings will take care of themselves.
